Fall is here!

Hello Everyone!

SCAD is back in session and I am a senior! After a long and neglected summer of me playing videogames, I am back and active! I know there was an uncompleted challenge, and I will start back up tomorrow!

My classes seem a teeny bit lighter this quarter, and my job is a lot less work now. But because of almost no income, I may be looking for a second job. We will see.

Nevertheless, I have some homework to post! I had to draw 12 shots from any live action movie and I chose Sherlock Holmes.

Day 2 Cappuccino Please (6/11)

Day 2 Cappuccino Please.
I didn't quite know what to draw, so I drew something about Cappuccino's. I permanently dyed my hair back to brown, and the color was supposedly a "dark blonde," specifically "cappuccino."

I plan on coming back to this. The last thing I did was the word on top, and the timer ran out, so I left it, but I dont like that at all. and her head doesn't match her face.

Ah, mistakes. But in all, I like this one!

Day 1 Clara Oswin Oswald (6/10)

Day 1 - I realized how slow I really am.

But hey, it kinda does look like her. I caught up on all my Doctor Who this summer break. What a productive use of my time.

Anyone got any tips on dimples? My gosh, that was treacherous.

Summer has started!

Helloo,

I am back. I had a dreadful, life-sucking Spring quarter, but I am back. And that's all that matters. My summer break has started about a week ago, and I took a week off from art. I gorged in videogames, food, and lots of sleep. Starting Monday, I decided to take on a challenge. 100 100-minute "freedoms," one each day. I figured that this past year I had no vent in terms of creativity. For one, I spend too much time thinking, and not enough time creating. So in this challenge, I will spend 100 minutes creating something that I think of on the spot.

Considering that it is Wednesday, I do indeed have 2 images to post, however my scanner broke and I can't fix the bloody thing. Photos will have to do for now!

In other news, as I organize and clean out my laptop and harddrive, I may post old things from the past 3 months. I will do my best to date everything. You'll probably get a lot of old stuff this month as I have to prepare for my sister's wedding, and tend to all the foreign guests occupying my house. Excuses and reasons not to be productive, but that's how life rolls.

I'll get to it then!

Kat

Finals are final

I will be working ALL WEEKEND. What sucks more, is that I'm starting to get the sniffles :C I'm taking all the medicines, and I keep oversleeping which is stressing me out more... ahhhhh. either way. I'll be working 'till the end, if I don't finish, tough poodles for me. I know my limit, and I'm not crossing it this quarter.

Here are some asset updates. (just in case I lose the file via transit again, I can pull from this blog, haha, you thought I was uploading for funsies hahahaha no.)

I still have the really sketchy, sketchy sketches on file, but I'm not uploading them, I cleaned up a good variety for presentation purposes. If I have time at the end, I'll make these even more crisp/do more of them, but for now, I need to do my factory assets, and then finish the illustrations for both of these (and according to my schedule, I have to do all that, and prop turnarounds, by the end of the day. yaay..)

Doodles and Life

Let's start with the latter. My life, is just draining and draining and just draining. 2 more weeks of this quarter and I don't know if I want to make it anymore. The way I've described it yesterday was "being shoved in a cold deep end over and over again and I can't swim" I am so tired of getting out and having someone push me back in. It's just rude, don't you think? I don't think I can handle the mental breakdowns in the middle of the night anymore. This is the first day I've been productive in like, a week. and I've been doodling. I want to finish these, but I really  need to get back to work. Yes, because I can't explain my problems in public, I just draw them. Awesome. [except that last one is really just a doodle] I spent about 20 minutes each on these.

In lighter news, I'm getting more comfortable drawing on a tablet rather than just coloring. Also, I realized this week that Kat does not like to back track. Whatever that means, right?

BACK TO WOOOORRRKKK.

[I may just disappear and upload everything during spring break]

Week 7 in-progress

Working on Conceptual Illustration stuff all-ish weekend. I've had other engagements to attend to as well and I slept in quite a bit. But I have a loose final design of my main character. And I've gotten a considerable amount of blocking in for one of my environments. Unfortunately, my updated assets never made it through the dropbox, so I have to redo those. Also, quite unfortunate, I forgot my watercolor drawings in my room, and I can't scan those in until tomorrow. So those will have to wait.

But here's Hood and me having some fun with the hue/saturation sliders

Environment 1: The first is the thumbnail I worked off of. The second is my grayscale in-progress. I plan to work on the color in Corel Painter, for practice, and hopefully speed. And no, I'm not excited to draw a factory under that ledge, I wish I could just make it a pond.

Master Copy

So I had 3 projects due yesterday, boy was THAT an experience. I haven't slept so much in weeks as I did since yesterday

Here is one of them. I had to do a Master Copy of some existing concept art. I did Wall-E, as I have the lovely book in my possession.

The top version is the original and the bottom one is mine.

Yes, I know I can't draw umbrellas. My patience drifted out the door after the 4-hour long bridge.

Concept Art Club

I went today and they had an art pass workshop. It was quite cool. We did an art pass in an hour and a half. I'm quite impressed what I can do in that time [though, I don't think I'll win the contest]

I don't know how many more times I can work on the same thing.

I really don't. But I think I'm table-flipping and keeping it the way it is, because I really need to start the actual assignment.

But hey, good news. The only homework I have this weekend is for Conceptual Illustration, but oh darn, it consists of 8 drawings like the one above. A complete master copy. 27 line tests, and 27 color tests. More assets for my environment, and actual start the finals for those. Only 4 more weeks until those are due on top of all my other work. [Oh how time flies...and then crashes into finals]

So, expect some updates [my dear non-existant followers] and hopefully I'll have some side things as a de-stressor [It's nice to hope, isn't it?]

Character Silhouettes

I had to do 150-250 character silhouettes in a day. Oh my.. Being the overachiever I am, I planned for 200. Being realistically okay with it, I got 150.

I also bought a Cintiq 4 pen, because I am sincerely tired of fighting for the very few [good] Cintiq 3's in the lab. And I am very much tired of fighting for a Cintiq 3 at all. Now I have 2 pens, and I can pick and chose which cubicle to reign [until SCAD gets Cintiq 5's, and for the sake of my wallet, they better not start on that soon.] Anyways. The black Cintiq's are much nicer and clearer and they don't make me nauseous when I work hours on end on them [maybe it's 'cause they're not so scratched up and blurry]

Anywho, silhouettes are mind boggling.

For clarity, and the sake of posting things on my blog. HERE ARE CLOSE-UPS. 20 per character, for class presentation purposes.

Lack of Productivity

It's been rough this past week.

I have to color 4 pages by Thursday for 1 class. I did 2 today.

I'm pretty satisfied with the turn-around. I drew the character last quarter for my character design class. I didn't bother fixing the line-art for color. Mainly because I don't have the time or patience to. (Actually. I haven't the slightest idea what Blogspot did to the colors. It's a lot more subdued, and perfectly fine in the original jpeg .-. [edit: I fixed it. darn channels])

And, I'm not done with this, but I am done with it for today. The line art is a scratchboard assignment I did almost a year ago. I want to digitally alter the blacks, but I need to focus on the colors first. I'm at a standstill with it for now. (Again, blogspot is hyping up my colors, and diffusing my value, I have no idea how to fix this [edit: I fixed this too])

Roundbrush Studies

So, I had to learn how to digitally paint. My professor assigned us to do 4 studies on photoshop. I've definitely learned a lot, but I wish I had time to get everything done the way I like them, and on time.
